about

Occupation Integration is a participative project based on the occupations in the center of Sao Paulo. It came from an instinctive reaction following a first recognition of the outside of the buildings in the downtown, and then the visit of the inside and the meeting with the inhabitants.

By the international workshop Insurgent Cartography, a conversation with the social movements MSTC and FLM and the families living inside the occupations permitted to understand the situation and underline the fact that the problem is not the quality of life of the community but its negative image from the outside.

A simple aspect that the project Occupation Integration points is the entrance, architectural element characterizing a material boundary. It has a direct impact on the outside and currently does not represent at all the inside community. Acting participatively on the entrance is going to be relevant by changing the aspect of the building, and in the same time the aspect of the whole community.

The proposal consists into using the existing architectural elements of the facade as a base of a vertical farm. This garden will provide to the inhabitants the possiblity to grow flowers, vegetables or fruit.

Another element taken into consideration is the current very hostile door and groundfloor windows, blocked with bricks. An opening of these frames adn their colouring would bring a new positive impression towards the occupations.
